Through the Editor's Eyes

An Objective Retrospection?

Catherine Groves

For our Winter 2022 issue, Catherine Groves thought to revisit a time thirty years ago — and, in order to do so, she calls upon this issue's Blast from Our Past as her launch point. As she puts it, "I wonder, how significantly have Price's views changed over the years? What about style, his tone? And what about Christian*New Age Quarterly?" Groves goes on to suggest some of the modifications to C*NAQ and admits it's hard for her to be objective about it all. But then our editor turns to objectivity versus subjectivity in general to probe what we, as humans, can truly know.

A Blast from
Our Past

How Much New Age Belief Can Christianity Assimilate?

Robert M. Price

First published in our October-December 1990 issue, this piece looks at New Age ideas and practices, and speculates about which of these beliefs Christianity might feasibly appropriate. Most explorations of this sort start from the New Age side, but here Price starts from the traditional Christian stance. From flying saucers to saviors and revealers, from Eastern thought to the Kingdom of God, the topics touched upon in this essay show what might be compatible and what would likely be too distant from Christian tenets to be accepted.
