Is John's Gospel Gnostic?

Robert M. Price

The voice of the Gospel of John is conspicuously different from that of the synoptic gospels. Part of John's distinctiveness, some scholars have speculated, may derive from Gnostic underpinnings. Drawing largely from the work of Rudolf Bultmann, who was the chief modern exponent of this view, Robert M. Price evaluates the strength of the case for characterizing the Gospel of John as Gnostic.

A Pensive Pause

Take a Beauty Break

Joanne Winetzki

Many of us can get caught up in the mundane routine of our daily lives and barely pause from our "texting, tweeting and talking on our cellphones" to glance at the beauty around us. For her "Pensive Pause" this time around, Joanne Winetzki shares what can happen when we "Take a Beauty Break."

The Fascination of Life

Judith Eir Landaiche

Judith Landaiche shares how she sees Life differently from the way most do. In "The Fascination of Life," Landaiche probes the relationship of life, the latter stage of growth and the body, with special focus on the energy reverenced in physical form.

A Peek Between the Covers

Dan Hahn

The Reverend Daniel B. Hahn offers a "Peek" at Cindy Wigglesworth's SQ 21: The Twenty-One Skills of Spiritual Intelligence. As Hahn explains, SQ21 is more than a companion volume to an assessment — think of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® — designed to measure spiritual intelligence. The book, in and of itself, is valuable for its practical guidance on developing one's spiritual smarts, as well as its way of sparking self-reflection.

Price's "Sophia's Stepchild: The Gnostic Sources of New Thought" that was featured in the Winter 2012 issue of C*NAQ. And, in response to Catherine Groves' Spring 2013 editorial,"The Cast," N. Michel Landaiche, III — a former C*NAQ "cast member" — shares what writing for Christian*New Age Quarterly has meant in his own journey. In addition, we hear from Joanne Winetzki, Wendell Wilkinson and other C*NAQ readers.
